Voxnusantara.com – An earthquake measuring 5.0 M shook Central Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi (Sulbar) on Sunday (26/08/2021) this afternoon. According to information from the Central Meteorology and Climatology Agency (BMKG), the earthquake that occurred at 17:30 WITA was centered at the coordinates of 2.27 South Latitude (LS) and 119.23 East Longitude (BT) with a depth of 10 km.

Thus, taking into account the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, it appears that this earthquake belongs to the category of shallow earthquakes, because the depth is less than 70 km from the earth’s surface.
Meanwhile, based on the modeling results, BMKG confirmed that the earthquake caused by this local fault activity did not have the potential for a tsunami. And until this news was raised, the BMKG had not released further reports regarding the impact that the earthquake had caused.

To this media, a resident in Pangale Subdistrict, Iis Sugiarti admitted, the earthquake that had just occurred was quite strong and lasted quite a long time. “The tremors of the earthquake occurred for about 30 seconds. People here are all rushing out of their houses,” he said.

Therefore, the public is also advised to remain calm and follow the directions from the BMKG. Do not be provoked by irresponsible news issues and remain alert to the potential for aftershocks.***
